(Photo: Manh Hung/Vietnam+) In an effort to promote renewable energy sources and combat climate change, Germany’s Thyssenkrupp Group and The Green Solutions Group Joint Stock Company (TGS) on March 29 signed a cooperation contract to produce green hydrogen and green ammonia in Vietnam in the period of 2022-2050. According to the partnership document, Thyssenkrupp and TGS aim to produce 216,000 tonnes of blue ammonia and 36,000 tonnes of blue hydrogen annually to support carbon neutrality efforts and contribute to mitigating the effects of climate change. The signing ceremony was attended by Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Vu Quang Minh and representatives of many partners who are looking to explore investment and business opportunities in Vietnam. The cooperation agreement between Thyssenkrupp and TGS is a promising first step for Vietnam to become a leading Asian country with sufficient potential to export “green fuels” such as hydrogen and ammonia to the world. According to recent studies by European energy agencies, 73% of respondents believe hydrogen will help meet carbon emissions targets within the next 10 years – more than any other technology. In addition, the report also found that 46% of respondents said that green hydrogen and blue ammonia will develop as a clean and affordable alternative to gas production by 2030 globally. Green hydrogen, with its all-zero emissions, has a wide range of applications, which can be used in power generation, energy storage and advanced transportation solutions. While green ammonia, which can be liquefied for storage and transport globally, is also used in many energy-intensive industries to produce electricity, fertilizers, or other green chemicals, particularly Especially, it is also a fuel to replace traditional fossil fuels in ships or in coal-fired power plants. To accompany the national policy on the commitment to reach “zero” emissions by 2050, TGS has invested in building the first “green hydrogen production” plant project in Vietnam in Dong Hai commune. Duyen Hai district, Tra Vinh province. With the aim of carrying out the preparations for the start of construction, the management of TGS is on a business trip to Germany to discuss and agree on a strategic cooperation with technology partner for green hydrogen production, Thyssenkrupp. of Germany.

Since 2020, TGS has been making efforts to research and exploit green energy in Vietnam to produce green hydrogen and green ammonia. Meanwhile, Thyssenkrupp currently has a portfolio of around 18,100 patents and utility models, making a significant contribution to building a green hydrogen economy, with advanced technology in alkaline water electrolysis and emission reduction. for industrial applications. The signing of a cooperation agreement between TGS and Thyssenkrupp creates a solid foundation for the production of green materials in Vietnam between the two enterprises in particular, and opens up opportunities for cooperation in the field of renewable energy between the two companies. enterprises in general of the two countries. In an effort to promote the diversification of energy sources, focusing on the development of clean and renewable energy sources, Vietnam has issued many mechanisms to encourage the development of wind power, biomass power, and renewable energy. solid waste, solar power, etc. In order to actively implement the Paris Agreement on climate change, Vietnam has also issued a National Program on economical and efficient use of energy for the period of 2019-2030; continue to perfect institutions, policies and laws to support the development of the energy industry; creating favorable conditions for foreign enterprises to invest and do business in the energy field in Vietnam./.
